Tools of the trade
Salutations, my name is Sean Alexander Kaiulani Chun and today I am going to share with you about my experience in the beginning of my Game Dev HQ internship. First, s you may know, most opportunities begin with an application process. After submitting my application I was interviewed over “Zoom” and was distraught to discover that I was missing a key piece of paper which I needed to qualify for the Game Dev HQ internship, my COVID-19 Lay-off notice. After a handful of attempts to reach the HR department of my former employer through a couple of phone calls, voice messages, emails, and speaking with the receptionist, I decided to follow up in person. Showing up worked like a charm! Next, after the second interview I was met with another challenge. I have two laptops, one is a little “Asus” with a relevant OS and an inadequate processor, second is a “Mac Book” with an adequate processor and an irrelevant OS which cannot be updated. Which meant that I was not able to access the resources necessary to begin making progress. Fortunately, my computer savvy friend, Aaron, who referred me to the Game Dev HQ Internship, happened to know the best computer tech guy in town, Dave, and reached out to him last night. While awaiting word from Aaron on Dave’s response this morning, I did not have a computer nor how many more challenges I would face to acquire them. Then, just a I started brainstorming contingency's on how to afford a computer on a days notice, I got the call. It was Aaron with word from Dave that he’s had an affordable PC that might work! I was very relived to hear that I would be able to continue with the Game Dev HQ internship sooner than later! Now that I have everything I need, I can begin my first steps toward becoming a software engineer! I am very grateful for this opportunity and for Aaron and Dave coming through with the “tools of the trade”.
Thank you.
